Final workshop in Pécs – preparing the Drava Action Plan

The initiative is part of the EU Resilient Borders programme, which aims to strengthen the resilience of cross-border regions against the impacts of climate change.

The project is implemented by the Baranya County Government (HU) and Virovitica-Podravina County (HR), with the involvement of the Pannon EGTC and CESCI as professional partners, as well as experts from the Hungarian and Croatian water management directorates and disaster management authorities.

A joint Action Plan for the Drava region

The main outcome of the project is a cross-border Action Plan that provides comprehensive responses to the major water management and climate challenges of the Drava basin. It addresses the risks posed by floods, inland waters and droughts, while promoting coordinated cooperation between institutions, organisations and communities on both sides of the border.

Key elements of the Action Plan include:

- nature-based solutions to restore ecosystems and enhance water retention,
- cross-border cooperation in crisis management and data sharing,
- capacity-building programmes for professionals and local communities,
- innovative technical developments to improve monitoring and forecasting.

Next step: closing conference in Pécs

The workshop in Pécs also marked the beginning of the project’s final phase. Preparations are underway for the closing conference, which will take place on 22 September 2025 in Pécs, where project partners and stakeholders will jointly present the Action Plan results and discuss further cooperation opportunities.
