The aim of the preparatory project is to develop a transnational development programme for 2025-2035, consisting of an action plan and a training programme, supporting the development of the Danube-Drava-Sava border regions. The project focuses on developing the capacity and competences of local communities to use EU funds more effectively and promote sustainable development.
Its main aim is to reduce socio-economic inequalities, strengthen the resilience of communities and increase inclusivity. The partnership will help increase the resilience of the region through assessments, capacity-building initiatives and strategic planning. Cross-border cooperation is given special attention in order to strengthen the integration and long-term development of the region.
As a first step, the project analyses the geographical, social, economic and cooperation situation of the region.
The geographical location of the region is of strategic importance, as it touches the border area of three countries (Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia). This offers geopolitical potential, but also poses special challenges. From a demographic perspective, the main problems are the decreasing population and aging, but cross-border cooperation can bring new opportunities for young people.
The economic analysis of the region has shown that although the GDP per capita is lower than the national average, there is significant potential in cooperation between SMEs and in encouraging foreign investment. From an educational perspective, the lack of cross-border programmes and joint initiatives hinders development.
Existing cross-border cooperation – be it public sector or business relations – shows positive examples, but further resources and coordination are needed for more effective cooperation. The project aims to develop a long-term integrated development strategy.
