Workshops for the development of the Hungarian-Croatian border area

In its programming period of 2021-2027, the European Union also pays special attention to the development of border regions, which are typically backward compared to central regions, and to the support of cross-border cooperation. As a continuation of the previous programs, in the new period it will also be possible to finance joint Hungarian-Croatian development projects.

The new Interreg Hungary-Croatia Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2021-2017 program is currently in the preparation phase, the policy goals and specific goals were adopted by the Programming Committee at the meeting on March 18, 2021, thus defining the priorities of the program for the next seven years . Accordingly, between 2021 and 2027, it will be possible to apply for the following subject areas from the support sources of the Hungarian-Croatian CBC program:

- cross-border trade and innovation cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprises

- energy cooperation

- joint nature conservation projects

- cross-border tourism cooperation projects

- secondary and higher education projects for economic purposes

- cooperation between government bodies and civil organizations

In order to finalize the program and determine the content of the individual components, the Pannon European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation, which was entrusted with the development of the program, organized four thematic workshops - in view of the pandemic online - in April 2021 with the Croatian and Hungarian stakeholders. In the framework of the workshop, the invited actors involved in the given component shared their experiences and plans and commented on the program document. The collected opinions and suggestions will become part of the Hungarian-Croatian border program after evaluation by the experts.

The Pannon European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation is the organization operating in the Croatian-Hungarian border region, which currently has 61 members: 8 counties (4 Hungarian, 4 Croatian), 51 local governments, and 2 organizations of regional importance, the University of Pécs and the Danube-Dráva National Park. In 2018, the organization took the initiative to let it carry out the fieldwork for the next planning cycle and create the 2021-2027 Hungarian-Croatian CBC program with the involvement of the locals, a task it won in 2019 as part of a priority project.
